Non Motorized Trail Waitsburg-Dayton- TOUCHET VALLEY TRAIL
Project Leader: Port of Columbia
Design and construct a 9.7 mile rail-with-trail project using Port of Columbia property around the current rail system. it will connect the communities of Waitsburg and Dayton promoting economic development, tourism, outdoor recreation, and healthy lifestyle activities.
A trail connecting the communities of Waitsburg and Dayton has long been a priority. The trail is included in the Blue Mountain Region Trails plan and is ready for concept design and engineering in 2019. The Port of Columbia has secured grants from the National Park Service and WSDOT that will aid in the design of the trail. The project will be led by a steering committee who will engage in public outreach to insure the final trail meets our community needs.
The Touchet Valley Trail from Dayton to Waitsburg, will be one of the first completed portions of the Blue Mountain Regional Trails Plan. OTHER TRAIL INFO: Bill Chipman Palouse Trail: This Rail is your Trail! The Bill Chipman Palouse Trail was officially dedicated and opened to public ue in April 1998. This 7-mile trail provides a safe recreation and commuter corridor for pedestrians and bicyclists. The trail idea was sparked in 1986 when the visionary plan “A Path for the Palouse” was created with assistance from the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) program of the Nation Park Service (NPS).
